Supernatural- Sam/Jess
For
100_women's #90- Comfort. Title taken from John Mayer's Slow Dancing in A Burning Room.
Sam wakes her up in the middle of the night, shaking and crying out her name. And Jess is so used to that, so she almost rolls over and ignores him in favor of another hour of sleep.
By chance though, she gets a look at his face, and almost cries. She’s never seen that look on his face before- fear mixed with utter devastation. She knows that she never wants to see it again though.
“Sam. Sam, baby, wake up,” she says, shaking his shoulders gently. He sits up so fast that she blinks in surprise, even as his gaze darts around the room. She’s not sure what Sam’s looking for- what he thinks is there- but that doesn’t matter.
“Jess,” he whispers, finally turning to face her.
She pulls him back down to her, letting him rest his head on her chest. She runs her fingers through his sweat soaked hair, even as he clings tightly to her. She mutters whatever comes to mind- it’s okay baby and I’m here and I love you Sam. She repeats all of it until he goes back to sleep, and Jess hopes that it’s a dreamless one.
In the morning, Sam doesn’t tell her what he dreamt about, and she doesn’t ask.
