100_women's 76- strawberries. this might be cheating though, watch me not care. title taken from the beatles's strawberry fields forever.
When Mary is pregnant with Dean, it seemed like the only thing she would eat was strawberries. Sometimes with chocolate- John lost count of how many times he’s licked the taste of fruit and chocolate syrup from her fingers and mouth- but never with whipped cream. She yelled at him every time he tried to sneak it into the house.
It didn’t matter that she refused to eat them by the time she was pregnant again. He didn’t eat them again after she died.
When Sam’s five, they find out that he’s allergic to strawberries, and John counts it as one of life’s small mercies, and nothing else.
